HMS Kent (F78) is one of the 16 Type 23 frigates built (also known as the Duke class). The ships of this type were initially designed as specialized anti-submarine ships (ZOP), but due to the experiences of the 1982 Falklands war, their on-board armament was significantly expanded, including a 114mm gun and Harpoon missiles. In the construction of the units, especially those entering service later, elements of stealth technology were used. In the period 2005-2006, a decision was made in Great Britain to recall three units of this type and sell them to Chile. The HMS Kent (F78) frigate was built at Yarrow Shipbuilders Limited. In 2002, the unit operated in the Persian Gulf region, and in 2013, it carried out the tasks of combating pirates in the area of the so-called Horn of Africa. In 2014, it took an indirect part in activities aimed at the so-called Islamic State.
